Polypropylene (PP) is a polycrystalline polymer characterised by its milky white appearance, non-toxicity, and lack of odour or taste. With a density of merely 0.90–0.91 g/cm³, it ranks among the lightest plastics. It exhibits exceptional stability in water, absorbing only 0.01% moisture, and possesses a molecular weight ranging from approximately 80,000 to 150,000. It exhibits good formability, though its high shrinkage rate (1%–2.5%) may cause thick-walled products to warp. Achieving dimensional accuracy for precision components proves challenging, though the finished surface possesses a fine lustre.
PP is safe and non-toxic, lightweight yet high-strength, chemically resistant, with excellent temperature tolerance, easy to process, and possesses electrical insulation properties. Common applications: food packaging, daily necessities, medical fields, industrial applications, and other sectors.
